CNN Exec Accuses Military of Not Protecting Journalists in War Zones
Source: E TV While meeting with news executives at the News Xchange Conference in Portugal, Eason Jordan, Vice-President and Chief news executive at CNN, accused the U.S. Military of failing to live up to its promises to protect journalist from attack by its own men.
Jordan cites, “'The reality is that at least 10 journalists have been killed by the U.S. military, and according to reports I believe to be true journalists have been arrested and tortured by US forces.”
While the military has repeatedly promised to investigate these incidents, Jordan says, “The fact that no one has been reprimanded would indicate that no one is taking responsibity.
ALSO the same article says Congressman Sylvestre Reyes of Texas, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, proposed on Thursday that the practice of embedding reporters with soldiers in combat zones be ended. MORE

>Former CNN Sports Anchor Fred Hickman says he has achieved in finding his dream job in broadcasting. As reported earlier in the week Hickman will be making the move to ESPN in Decemeber. "It is the pinnacle of my career," Hickman said of joining ESPN. "It's the major league of TV sports. I've worked for 30 years to get my dream job, and I'm looking forward to the challenge."

CNN Presents:‘Company Town’

Today we feature John Metaxas, a former CNN Business Correspondent. Metaxes joined CNN in 1994 and covered the NASDAQ for CNN and contributed to the network's flagship financial news program, Moneyline. Metaxes also anchored several financial news programs including Your Money, CNN's weekly look at personal finance. What is he doing now? Well John left CNN in 2001 to become chief corporate communications and government affairs officer for E*Trade, the online personal financial services provider.

FOX coming to Canada
Source: CTV.ca Well, first off I know this NOTHING to do with CNN, BUT maybe it does. Looks like Fox News Channel will be allowed on Canadian digital television next year. This is CNN related because up til now Canadians have been deprived of this outstanding "News Channel" and will now have a choice: CNN, offering news AND FNC, offering "if you're not American we hate ya" attitudes. I know we have alot of Canadian vistitors to the blog BUT I hope they will continue to watch CNN because FOX is all talk and no news. You'll find the article on the CRTC's decision HERE.

Brown Visits High School Alma Mater
Source: Sun Newspapers Aaron Brown, a 1966 Hopkins High School graduate, visited his alma mater Tuesday, coming to the Eisenhower Community Center in Hopkins to speak to a group of Hopkins students as well as some of his former teachers and other adults in the community.
During his speech, Brown reminisced about the past, talked about his journey from a shy and nerdy Hopkins High student to a still-shy CNN anchor, and some of the challenges he has faced and continues to face in his career as a journalist.
Here are a few quotes from the article:
“Even then I knew what I was going to do for a living,” Brown said. “Not one day of my life have I doubted it.”
“I told kids earlier to figure out what you want and go do it,” he said. “It’s simple. It’s not easy. There’s a difference.”
“I don’t want to express to you that there is anything remarkable about my life,” Brown said. “It’s basic cable. We don’t even charge extra for it,” he joked about CNN.

Woodruff Speaks to Yale Students About Election

"The solidarity of the Republican position may not be as great as the fragility of the Democratic position," Woodruff said, adding that many Democrats are in "deep despair" because of their losses in this year's election.
"There was no consistent Kerry narrative or compelling argument," Woodruff said.The problem today for Democrats, Woodruff said, is that they need to find a way to reach out to voters in a way that seems authentic and credible."They have their work cut out for them," she said.
"My suspicion is that all these domestic issues will be profoundly affected by one external issue -- Iraq," Woodruff said.

Today we will feature former CNN-Headline News Health Anchor Kat Carney. Carney was a Health anchor for the network for three years, before that she was a host on the Discovery Health Channel and Home & Garden Television. So what is she doing now? Well it seems Carney has just signed up to be NutriSystem's spokesperson and will host an infomercial to began airing sometime in December. Hickman joins ESPN from the YES Network, available to viewers in New York, Connecticut, and parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He served as studio anchor and host for the Yankees and Nets pre- and post-game shows.
Hickman was a CNN Sports original, joining the network in 1980. He served as senior anchor on CNN/Sports Illustrated, and co-anchored CNN's Sports Tonight

Live From New York it's CNN Daybreak
CNN Daybreak began airing from the Time Warner Center In NYC this morning. As you may remember a few months back CNN had announced the program would be moved from CNN Center to NYC to allow Carol Costello to move and be closer with her new husband. I did not see the program this morning and I am interested what set Carol is broadcasting from and IF anything else about the program has changed. Source: Broadcasting and Cable Having recently shuttered its CNNfn financial-news channel, Cable News Network resolved to beef up its business programming on the main network.
Kwame Jackson—former stockbroker, first-season runner-up on The Apprentice, and non-journalist—has been recruited by the news network for the pilot of a show that CNNers refer to as “Inside the Actor’s Studio for CEOs.” It will feature Jackson interviewing business leaders and pop culture figures about the arc of their careers.
Jackson’s appearance at CNN is not playing too well with experienced hands.

CNN Producer: Opinion has a place within a 24-hour news network
Associated Press Writer David Bauder seems to think that cable news provides more opinion than actual reporting. Imagine that. Where has he been the last year or two? Anyway, an executive producer with CNN was quoted in the article:
"Sam Feist, CNN's senior executive producer for political programming, said he sees a place for opinion within a 24-hour news network. He doesn't agree that CNN has cut down on its reporting.
"I don't see CNN becoming the all-talk network," he said. "Nor should CNN be like Headline News."
Bauder concludes in the article, "Fox's template is still dominant; there's no evidence that spending more time reporting and less time arguing will be rewarded. CNN Headline News -- a bastion of all-news, all-the-time -- will experiment early next year with prime-time talk shows."

Stark County, Ohio Workers Await Pay From CNN
Source: Beacon Journal Nearly three months after CNN aired a nationally televised town hall-style meeting of undecided voters at the county courthouse, officials at the courthouse and the Stark County Sheriff's Office still are waiting for the cable giant to pay for security they provided for the Paula Zahn Now show. The live, hourlong telecast the night of Aug. 18, billed by CNN producers as a bellwether indicator of the fiercely contested election, required 14 sheriff's deputies and other courthouse personnel to work additional security shifts on the night before the show and for the show itself, courthouse Administrator Marc Warner said. The total CNN tab, Warner said, is nearly $4,000, including the cost of a $165 overhead lighting globe that was broken in the ornate William McKinley Courtroom, where the show took place.
``These folks were very good to deal with. They were very professional,'' Warner said, ``but this is way past the length of time that it should have (taken).'' The overtime tab for the deputies, Warner said, is $2,593.30. He said the bill for his courthouse workers and staff is $1,389.89.
A CNN spokeswoman in New York, reading from a prepared statement Friday, said the company, ``unfortunately experienced administrative delays, which we truly regret.''
Checks for the county workers will arrive Monday, the spokeswoman said.
