CNN Denies Reports it Plans to Open Bureau in Ukraine
Source: RIA Novosti Widely respected U.S. international news channel CNN denied Thursday reports it planned to open a bureau and launch a new channel in Ukraine, a spokesperson for the network's London bureau said.
"International news network CNN would like to clarify that it has no plans to open a bureau or a new channel in Ukraine, despite reports today in the Ukrainian media," Claudia Coles said in a phone interview with RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the press service of the Supreme Rada, the Ukrainian parliament, released a statement saying that Rada Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn had met with a CNN spokesperson and discussed the network's plans to open a bureau and launch a new channel in Ukraine.
"CNN's Moscow bureau has been an integral part of the network's operations since it opened in 1983 and continues to report on the region's pivotal role in the global news agenda, including news out of Ukraine," Coles said. "We remain committed to bringing the region's stories to the attention of our global audience."
Additional: Here's the article 'announcing' the new channel: "According to the CNN representative, inaugurating the office and further prospects are connected with "huge interest toward Ukraine" in the USA and in the world. Volodymyr Lytvyn hailed creating the CNN channel in Ukraine and noted that "unbiased and objective information about the situation in Ukraine is especially needed in the period before and during the elections, as well as while developing democracy and establishing a civil society"."

CNN sells stake in Germany's NTV
Source: The Financial Press RTL Group is buying out CNN's 50-percent share in German news channel n-tv, taking its stake to 100 percent, it said on Thursday. It declined to name a price for the transaction, which is subject to approval from cartel and media regulators.
"N-tv is an important member of our family of complementary broadcasters," RTL said in a statement. "The planned step will give n-tv the necessary room for maneuver for the strategic challenges of the future."
RTL, Europe's biggest TV broadcaster, has 32 television channels and 31 radio stations in 11 countries. They include M6 in France and Five in Britain.
CNN, a division of global media conglomerate Time Warner Inc., became a shareholder in n-tv in 1993, a year after n-tv was launched. RTL and CNN have been 50-percent shareholders in n-tv since 2002.
RTL says n-tv attracts more than 5 million viewers per day, around 6 percent of Germany's population. It has less than 1 percent of the German TV advertising market.

CNN X-Plains Glitch
Source: Broadcasting and Cable CNN's Daryn Kagan said it was a computer glitch, not a staffer's editorial comment, that caused a big, black X to appear briefly over the face of Vice President Dick Cheney during its coverage of his speech Monday about the War in Iraq.
Saying the glitch was being blogged into a conspiracy theory, the company took a couple of minutes on air to explain what happened and pledge to take steps to prevent a repeat.
"Upon seeing this unfortunate but very brief graphic, CNN senior management immediately investigated," the company said in a statement that was shown on air. "We concluded this was a technological malfunction not an issue of operator error. A portion of the switcher experienced a momentary glitch. We obviously regret that it happened and are working on the equipment to ensure it is not repeated."
The X was a computer placesaver for the CNN logo as the network was readying the graphic switch from the VP to an anchor. That cue is not supposed to make it to air, but did, a network tech exec explained to Kagan.

This Just Made My Day
While flipping through the channels, working my way to CNN, my remote got stuck on FNC. They were airing a story on a new, upscale McDonalds having waiters that wear tuxedos. Well they did several panned shots and show the tv's in the Mickey D's and low and behold on the tv's was CNN, NOT FNC. Makes me wonder why whoever put that story together didn't notice that.

CNN Piles On the Platforms
Source: TV Week CNN has sold Chrysler a multimillion-dollar ad package that includes its broadest array yet of media platforms.
The exclusive sponsorship deal, which is for ads in and leading up to CNN's one-hour special about Time magazine's annual Person of the Year feature, includes TV and print, interstitial programming and all the latest bells and whistles: broadband video, interactive TV, video-on-demand, wireless and podcasts.
But Chrysler believes the elements are more than just bells and whistles. "They're all-important communications tools," said Suraya Dasante, public relations manager for marketing communications for the automaker.
Greg D'Alba, chief operating officer for CNN, said that about 80 percent of CNN's revenues come from deals that integrate television and the Web and that its digital revenue has quadrupled compared with a year ago. "It's no longer an experimental model, it's a business plan," he said.
The campaign launches today and leads up to Dec. 18, when CNN will present a one-hour documentary on Time's 2005 Person of the Year, sponsored by Chrysler.

Drudge, FNC Orgasms Over CNN Glitch
Ok, I have a little time on my hands this evening and OMG you would think the world was coming to the end on how Drudge AND FNC are hyping a glitch that occured on CNN earlier today. Below is Drudge's "Exclusive News Flash":
"At 11:04:45 AM ET Monday CNN was airing Vice President Dick Cheney's speech live from the American Enterprise Institute in Washington -- when a large black 'X' repeatedly flashed over the vice president's face!
The 'X' over Cheney's face appeared each time less than a second, creating an odd subliminal effect.
As this DRUDGE REPORT screen capture reveals, while one 'X' flashed over Cheney's face CNN ran a headline at the bottom of its screen: "CHENEY: I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS WRONG TO CRITICIZE."
One top White House source expressed concern about what was aired over CNN.
"Is someone in Atlanta trying to tell us something?"
A CNN spokesman did not return repeated calls late Monday night.
Developing..."
AND then Matt Drudge just had to go on FNC tonight to comment it on it. TV Newser says Drudge said, "the X's appeared for "less than a 15th of a second" each. "It was almost subliminal," he said. "However, when you slow down the tape you see Dick Cheney's face with a large X on it." "I think they've gotta give an explanation," Drudge added."
Ahhh, so the regular viewer couldn't see it. Some people have too much time on their hands. Anyway CNN responded to TV Newser this way,""This was a technological malfunction, not an issue of operator error. A portion of the switcher experienced a momentary glitch." The CNN response was read on FNC BUT it seemed Drudge wasn't satisfied saying, "It glitched over and over again, eh?. "The timing of the glitch is interesting..."
It's my hope that Matt Drudge GETS A LIFE!!!
