L'Oréal Signs as Sponsor of CNN Ad Sales Event
Source: TV Week L'Oréal Paris will sponsor an event honoring inspiring women that's being hosted by CNN Ad Sales.
The CNN Inspire Summit will be held Oct. 10 in New York. The summit will feature women of achievement in fields including politics, the environment and social efforts, and the women they find inspiring.
CNN anchor Paula Zahn will make opening remarks and a panel discussion will be led by Zain Verjee, CNN international correspondent.
"This event brings together some truly remarkable individuals to discuss serious issues facing women and the world as a whole," said Greg D'Alba, chief operating officer of CNN Ad Sales and Marketing. "We are proud to have L'Oréal Paris joining us for this exceptional evening of education, interaction and dialogue."
Plans for televising or webcasting parts of the event had not been finalized Friday.

Phillips' Co-anchor DOA?
These CNN Fans are wondering where Kyra Phillips' co-anchor is on CNN Newsroom. The new news format program started at the beginning of September. It was announced by CNN a couple of months ago Don Lemon would be joining the network as an anchor but he has yet to appear. Inquiring minds wanna know.

Grace Says 'Guilt' Likely Made Mother Commit Suicide
Source: ABC News Former prosecutor turned talk show host Nancy Grace is unapologetic about her confrontational interview with the mother of a missing boy who later committed suicide.
In an exclusive interview with "Good Morning America" today, Grace said that she takes no responsibility for Duckett's suicide.
"If anything, I would suggest that guilt made Melinda Duckett commit suicide," Grace told ABC News' Chris Cuomo.
"To suggest that a 15 or 20 minute interview can cause someone to commit suicide is focusing on the wrong thing," she said. MORE

CNN Hits Campaign Trail on Nationwide ‘Election Express Yourself’ Tour
Source: CNN Press Release With the mid-term elections just weeks away, CNN takes politics to the streets with the “CNN Election Express Yourself,” a customized Airstream trailer designed to give Americans across the nation an interactive political experience.
During the weeks prior to the election, CNN Election Express Yourself will travel coast-to-coast, visiting many cities and major events, arriving in New York City just prior to Election Day, Nov. 7. This unique traveling exhibit debuts on Friday, Sept. 15, in Seattle at the Puyallup Western Fair.
“We are living in a new age of independent thinking and self-_expression, and it’s particularly evident when you look at how people are talking about politics,” said Scot Safon, senior vice president of marketing and promotion. “We thought we’d give our audiences a chance to express themselves on a whole range of issues that have an impact on the American political scene. With the CNN Election Express Yourself, we are giving people a hands-on opportunity to learn more about the political process while they share their individual perspectives with CNN’s entire global audience.”
As it rolls across the country, the CNN Election Express Yourself tour will educate citizens about current political issues and allow them to express their own political views through “shout out” video portraits, on-line interaction and numerous on-site activities, including political trivia and the chance to design personalized election memorabilia. The tour and the opinions of those who visit the Airstream may be featured on CNN programming in the weeks leading up to the election.
CNN Election Express Yourself also includes a fully equipped “Internet Café,” which will provide visitors with direct access to some of CNN’s most impressive online features. Two stations, each equipped with two computers, will be available for visitors to view CNN Pipeline, CNN.com’s premium live video news service and to navigate CNN.com’s comprehensive election-focused news content, including the in-depth special section “America Votes 2006.”

Grace Blamed for Suicide of Mother of Missing Boy
Source: Associated Press Two weeks after telling police that her son had been snatched from his crib, Melinda Duckett found herself reeling in an interview with TV's famously prosecutorial Nancy Grace. Before it was over, Grace was pounding her desk and loudly demanding to know: "Where were you? Why aren't you telling us where you were that day?"A day after the taping, Duckett, 21, shot herself to death, deepening the mystery of what happened to the boy.
Police have refused to say whether she left a suicide note, and said nothing they have found so far in their investigation of her death has shed light on the whereabouts of her 2-year-old son, Trenton.
Investigators have stopped short of calling her a suspect but have focused increasing attention on her movements just before the boy vanished and the notes, computer, camera and other items seized from her house.
Duckett's family members disputed any suggestion that she hurt her son. They said that the strain of her son's disappearance pushed her to the brink, and the media sent her over the edge.
"Nancy Grace and the others, they just bashed her to the end," Duckett's grandfather Bill Eubank said Tuesday. "She wasn't one anyone ever would have thought of to do something like this. She and that baby just loved each other, couldn't get away from each other. She wouldn't hurt a bug."
Janine Iamunno, a spokeswoman for Grace, said in an e-mail that Duckett's death was "an extremely sad development," but that the program would continue covering the case.
"We feel a responsibility to bring attention to this case in the hopes of helping find Trenton Duckett, who remains missing," Iamunno said. MORE

CNN in Mobile Initiative in Hong Kong
Source: Indian Television CNN International has been made available for the first time as a live stream 24 hours a day to Hong Kong mobile phone users. Tapping strategic partner PCCW’s new service “now on mobile”, subscribers can access CNN’s breaking news as it happens directly on their phones or other handheld devices.Turner International Asia Pacific VP wireless development Ringo Chan says, “This exciting extension of our partnership with PCCW represents the latest Turner initiative to roll out innovative wireless services in Asia Pacific. We continue to pioneer interactive products across the region and this launch further cements Turner Broadcasting’s corporate alliance with PCCW, one that now encompasses mobile and IPTV services".
In addition to the live CNN stream, four hours of Cartoon Network’s original programming block will be looped to provide service 24 hours a day via “now on mobile” to PCCW mobile subscribers. CNN International’s live stream made an inaugural launch in Asia in July through a deal with Korea’s largest telecommunication company SK Telecom, while other Asian markets are to be targeted in the coming months.
CNN Mobile is CNN International’s service for mobile devices. Launched in 1999, it was the first mobile telephone news and information service available globally with targeted regional content. The service delivers CNN news content to mobile phones in a wide of formats.

Shake Up at HLN

"The general manager of CNN Headline News is switching to a new job with CNN International, the network announced Monday.
Headline News also confirmed that it is revamping its afternoon lineup by canceling one block of programming and expanding two others.
Rolando Santos is leaving his post as executive vice president and general manager of Headline News, a job he has held since 2002, to become senior vice president of international relations with CNN International.
He will start his new duties this month. CNN spokeswoman Janine Iamunno said Santos' duties will be absorbed by Ken Jautz, who oversees Headline News, and another network executive, Bill Galvin. In addition, Headline News is changing its 4-6 p.m. news programming, which had been anchored by Kathleen Kennedy and Thomas Roberts.
Iammuno said Kennedy and Roberts will remain with Headline News but in other roles. Their two-hour slot will be filled by expanding earlier blocks of programming from three hours each to four hours.
The switch means longer on-air duties for four Headline News anchors who work during the day, including veteran Chuck Roberts."

9/11/2006: The Anniversary of the News Scroll
Watching CNN Pipeline's realtime playback of 9/11/2001 reminds me that it has been 5 full years that we have put up with the scrolling news ticker. I've never been a fan of the ticker and wish CNN would take the lead and take it away FOREVER! My thinking is if I wanted to read the news I would go to the internet OR read a newspaper. Love it or hate it, I have a feeling it's not going away anytime soon.
