LKL Home Sold
Source: LA Times Palo Alto investment firm Broadreach Capital Partners is paying about $50 million for the 14-story tower at 6430 Sunset Blvd., home of "Larry King Live" and other Cable News Network broadcasts, Broadreach Managing Director David Simon said Thursday.
The sale by owner Scanlan Kemper Bard is expected to close next week.
The buyer's strategy calls for making at least $5 million worth of improvements to the 38-year-old building in the hope of luring tenants who can pay higher rents.

Deal Approved for CNN's n-tv Stake Sell
Source: Associated Press Europe's largest broadcaster, RTL Group, said Wednesday it is acquiring full control of German 24-hour news channel n-tv from U.S. news channel CNN after the deal was cleared by antitrust authorities.
The German Cartel Office approved the move for RTL to acquire the 50 percent stake owned by Atlanta-based CNN, the European broadcaster said in a statement. It did not divulge a price.
"We welcome the decision of the cartel office and are excited that n-tv has become the most important member of the RTL family," said Anke Schaeferkordt, head of RTL Germany.
RTL and CNN have been joint owners of n-tv since 2002, with each holding a 50 percent stake.
Luxembourg-based RTL Group said in November it would acquire the remaining shares from Turner Broadcasting System Inc., the parent company of CNN. Turner is owned by New York-based Time Warner Inc., the world's largest media company.

Gorani Named Co-Anchor for CNN International’s Your World Today

TWC Bringing Meteorologists to Web
Source:MultiChannel The Weather Channel will launch video forecasts on weather.com (www.weather.com) for the top 25 cities May 1, replete with walking, talking and gesturing meteorologists, as on television.“Our Web site is geared toward the middle-of-the-road” user, who is more interested in getting information easily than manipulating a lot of data, vice president of broadband products and distribution Jody Fennell said, meaning watching people whom they trust tell them what's going on in the world outside their doors.
“It's the connection with that person actually interpreting the data for you and telling you what it means” that matters, director of broadband programming Tony Grohovsky added.
Approximately seven different meteorologists will be employed to deliver 90-second video forecasts for cities ranging from New York, Los Angeles and Chicago to Portland (Ore.), Baltimore and Indianapolis. Among familiar names likely to be found in the rotation: Mark Mancuso, Adam Berg and Sarah Libby, Fennell and Grahovsky said on the floor of the National Show here.
But unlike local broadcast TV, no single announcer will become the face of a given city, even though “it's something we've contemplated,” Fennell said. “It's more the interpretive power” of seeing and hearing a weather person in action that viewers find useful, she added, “than it is the person itself.”
The meteorologists will, however, be encouraged to localize the forecasts as much as possible. References to and conditions for local sporting events, festivals and other activities will be worked into the video forecasts, which will be free of charge on weather.com. The local forecasts will be adapted for mobile devices in 60-second versions.
Costs of the service will be covered by advertising -- Fennell said parent Landmark Communications Inc. could expect to see the investment in weather people for the Web pay back within a year.

Glenn Beck Premieres May 8 on Headline Prime
Source: CNN Press Release Glenn Beck, a new topical talk show featuring radio personality Glenn Beck, will premiere on Headline News on Monday, May 8, at 7 p.m. (ET), it was announced today by Ken Jautz, executive vice president, CNN Worldwide. In a first for Headline News, the show will air seven days at a week at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., with encore presentations of weekday shows on Saturdays and Sundays.Glenn Beck will be an unconventional look at the news of the day featuring Beck’s unique and often amusing perspective on top stories from world events and politics to pop culture and everyday hassles. Segments will include “Beck’s Notes,” a tongue-in-cheek overview of a story making news; “Real America,” which tells the stories of ordinary Americans overcoming extraordinary obstacles; “Ask Glenn,” in which Glenn dispenses “advice” to e-mailers on a range of topics; and the “Quality of Life Index,” a stock market-like segment on how the newsmakers of the day affect Americans’ quality of life.
The show will include in-studio guests, man-on-the-street interviews, reports from special contributors and Beck’s perspectives on the pop culture headlines of the day.
