CNN-IBN Car Set on Fire
Source: Televisionpoint.com Four miscreants on Tuesday afternoon sprinkled petrol and set on fire a vehicle belonging to the CNN-IBN channel in the state capital of Uttar Pradesh and hit the camera assistant on the head with an iron rod. The miscreants then sped away on motorbikes.
Angry journalists blocked the road in front of the Lal Bahadur Shastri Bhavan which houses the chief min ister's secretariat and demanded arrest of the culprits within 24 hours. They have also demanded security for the channel team.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has strongly condemned the incident and has asked officials to take action against the culprits at the earliest.
According to sources, the camera assistant Anil Saini and driver Guddu Kashyap had gone in an Indica car (UP 32-BQ -- 9834), bearing the CNN-IBN sticker, to Pee Kay Bhavan (which houses the telephone department) on busy Madan Mohan Malviya Marg around 1 pm. The two were waiting in the car when four young boys arrived on two motorbikes and broke the door panes with an iron rod.
Even before the camera assistant and the driver could realise what was happening, the boys threw in petrol and then a lighted match stick. The two occupants of the car managed to get out of the vehicles, seconds before it caught fire. "We would have been roasted alive if we had not got out in time," said Anil Saini.
The boys then beat up the driver and hit the camera assistant on the head with an iron rod before speeding away on the motorbike. "They kept saying that they would teach us a lesson because we had exposed someone," the driver said.
The channel meanwhile, said that threats had been coming ever since the channel exposed the illgotten wealth of BSP leader Mayawati.
