Kenyan Journalists Dominate Competition


Source: The Standard Kenyan journalists made a mark in Africa’s premier competition for the second year running.

Freelance journalist Angelo Kinyua emerged the overall winner of the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Award after another Kenyan, Peter Murimi, was voted the best in 2004.

Kinyua of Media Development in Africa was declared the winner at a glittering ceremony in Nairobi’s Safari Park Hotel.

The Leader of Official Opposition Uhuru Kenyatta, Cabinet ministers Najib Balala and Raphael Tuju, CNN Managing Director Chris Cramer and MultiChoice CEO Eben Greyling attended the ceremony.

Kinyua’s entry beat the over 1,500 entries received from French, English and Portuguese speaking countries.

Besides the two trophies, she won a laptop computer, cash prizes and three weeks attachment at the CNN Centre in Atlanta.
