Runaway Bride Coverage Too Much?
Source: Useless-Knowledge.com Robert Paul Reyes writes: When the bride-to-be disappeared four days before her wedding it prompted a widespread search and commanded the attention of the national news media. CNN, MSNBC and Fox News all devoted wall-to-wall coverage to the saga of the missing bride. Can anyone say wretched excess?
The stock-in-trade of the all news networks are missing children and women in peril. When a socially prominent, young, attractive white woman, goes jogging and then disappears days before her wedding, it's guaranteed to be a big story.
If a chubby, poor black woman had disappeared under similar circumstances, even the local news channels would ignore her plight.
Law enforcement officials in Duluth and Albuquerque said no local charges were planned against Wilbanks. The most fitting punishment would be for the media to ignore this publicity whore. The Fox News Channel should pretend that she is just a crazy black woman and move on to news that is really important.
