NBC Looking to Replace Top News Exec?


Source: New York Daily News Is the decline of the "Today" show about to claim another scalp?

The television-news rumor mill is in overdrive with the buzz that NBC News President Neal Shapiro will soon meet the same fate. Shapiro personally chose Tom Touchet as "Today's" executive producer; Touchet lost his job last month as ABC's "Good Morning America" was closing in on NBC's "Today," once the unchallenged ratings champion.

I hear that Shapiro's boss, NBC-Universal Television Group President Jeff Zucker, has been actively seeking a replacement for the 47-year-old news exec, who has been in the job since May 2001.

Zucker, I'm told, has been sounding out television types for possible names and even approaching specific candidates to gauge their interest in taking over the news division.
