O'Brien Goes to College
Source: The Post-Standard The last time a pope died, Soledad O'Brien was 11 years old, and there wasn't any cable TV news channel to tune in.
This time, she's a CNN news anchor in New York City and part of the team handling the network's live coverage throughout this morning's funeral of Pope John Paul II.
O'Brien, who speaks at 5 p.m. Sunday at Syracuse University, uses words like "amazing" to describe what it has been like as an anchor reporting on the pope's illness, death and funeral preparations and interviewing those with insights on his possible successor.
"I find all the angles to be a fascinating story. Picking a pope is something, obviously, that happens so infrequently, and so you get a chance to shed a little light on the Vatican," says O'Brien, who plans to talk about this at SU's Hendricks Chapel in a speech open to the public.
