CNN/US Pope Funeral Plans
Source: CNN Pressroom CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, along with CNN’s chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour and American Morning anchors Bill Hemmer in Rome and Soledad O’Brien in New York, leads the network’s coverage from specially built set from the rooftop of the Collegio Urbano overlooking St. Peter’s Square. More than seven hours of wall-to-wall coverage begins at 3 a.m. on Friday, April 8. CNN will replay the coverage at 7 p.m. within its prime-time weekday programming and again at 11 p.m.
“No other network rises to the occasions of such global importance as the death of Pope John Paul II as CNN does,” said Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S. “Our global resources enable us to place more anchors, correspondents and producers in place to cover this event and to effectively tell the story of this pope and how the world grieves for him.”
For the coverage of the declining health of Pope John Paul II and his eventual death, CNN deployed more than 100 staff members, including 14 anchors and correspondents to Rome and the Vatican City. Other correspondents include international correspondent Jim Bittermann, CNN anchor Aaron Brown, CNN en Espanol anchor Patricia Janiot, CNN International anchors Jonathan Mann and Richard Quest, CNNRadio anchor Dick Uliano and CNN Rome bureau chief Alessio Vinci.
