CNN Headline News’ Showbiz Tonight Broadcasts Debut in Oscar Fashion
Source: CNN Pressroom Showbiz Tonight, CNN Headline News’ brand new entertainment news program, kicks off its debut week in Oscar style on Monday, Feb. 21, with numerous live interviews with some of the actors, designers, musicians and others who make the Academy Awards possible.
The one-hour program, co-hosted by A.J. Hammer and Karyn Bryant, is part of CNN Headline News’ new prime-time line-up, Headline Prime. Additionally, it will be the only entertainment news show broadcasting live from New York City and Los Angeles with its own countdown to the awards ceremony. Special coverage will include in-depth interviews with nominees, a preview of this year’s red carpet couture and an at-home look with past Oscar winners.
The highlights of Showbiz Tonight’s “Oscar Countdown” include:
>One-on-one interviews with nominees, including Alan Alda live from the set of West Wing, Jamie Foxx, Counting Crows front man Adam Duritz live from Showbiz Tonight’s New York studio and Thomas Haden Church;
>Famed designer John Varvatos disclosing how he would dress each nominee and why, as well as proper attire for male celebrities;
>Twice weekly segments with InStyle magazine including “Tuesday InStyle,” a look at what to expect on the red carpet, and “Thursday InStyle,” an at-home look with past Oscar winners and their statues;
>Hilary Swank and Hector Roca, Swank’s trainer for Million Dollar Baby, discussing her transformation into a boxer while preparing for her Oscar-nominated role;
>Features on what nominees would consider to be their worst Oscar nightmare, the frantic preparations for Hollywood’s biggest night and the thrill of being an award nominee.
Through the week, Hammer and Bryant will co-host live from Showbiz Tonight’s studio in New York City, while CNN correspondent Sibila Vargas will report from Los Angeles. On Friday, Feb. 25, Bryant will co-host the program live from the red carpet at the Kodak Theatre, and Hammer will co-anchor from New York.
On Sunday, Feb. 27, Vargas will report live from the red carpet throughout the day and evening for both CNN/U.S. and CNN Headline News. From 7-8 p.m. on CNN/U.S., Vargas and Bryant will co-host a live red carpet special titled, “Hollywood Gold Rush,” which will feature interviews with Oscar attendees.
